The All-Ukrainian Association of Communities (further referred to as AUAC ) has joined discussions on legislative changes necessary for implementing the reform of specialized secondary education.
The event took place at the communication platform of the Congress Office in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine with the support of the Swiss-Ukrainian project DECIDE – “Decentralization for Democratic Education Development”.
“AUAC supports the reform of specialized secondary education. Today’s meeting was very productive, and all the decisions necessary to implement the reform at a qualitative level were presented. However, there are several issues that need to be addressed. In the near future, we will hold a meeting with Deputy Minister of Education and Science Andriy Stashkiv to discuss all urgent issues arising in communities regarding the implementation of the reform. Following the results of this meeting, our Association will provide its proposals to ensure that the reform is effective in rural areas and takes into account the interests of all participants in the educational process,” said the head of the education committee of VAG, Hryhoriy Targonskyi.
According to Nadia Slyusarchyk, Deputy Executive Director of AUAC, the Association currently faces the question of how to help communities cope with the new challenges where it is impossible to establish a lyceum due to a low number of students.
Additionally, issues such as transporting students to lyceums, road quality, students’ adaptation to the new educational environment, and others require more detailed discussion.
It is worth noting that from 2025, piloting is planned, and from 2027, the introduction of a three-year specialized secondary education (grades 10-12), aimed at renewing the educational process, creating conditions for self-realization, and preparing for the future labor market.
One of the key tasks of the reform is to form a capable network of educational institutions and build a new educational infrastructure to ensure high-quality education and contribute to community development.
The current state of education leads to inequality between rural and urban schools in terms of quality and accessibility of education. Therefore, it is necessary to find common paths and opportunities for reforming specialized secondary education and discuss legislative changes that will contribute to the implementation of this reform.
