In the Ichne Town Council (Chernihiv Oblast), another strategic session was held as part of the project “Veteran Reintegration: From Effective Solutions for Communities to an Effective National Policy” with the expert support of the All-Ukrainian Association of Communities, NGO “Space of Opportunities,” and financial support from the International Renaissance Foundation.
During the session, participants studied specific problems of veterans’ reintegration into communities, analyzed practical cases, sought tools for working with veterans and their families, and discussed the specifics of working with partners in the field of veterans’ policy in Ukraine.
“Our association aims to find effective tools and practices of local veterans’ policy in pilot communities, disseminate them throughout the local self-government system, and make them the basis of state policy,” noted Igor Abram’yuk, Director of Development at the All-Ukrainian Association of Communities.
Also, during the session, participants familiarized themselves with existing veteran spaces in other communities in Ukraine, how they operate, and the services and support they provide for veterans and their families. These spaces will contribute to the faster reintegration of veterans into society.
“This project is of great importance today because the number of those returning from the front lines, those who have experienced combat, will increase, and they will need to feel society’s support. And we must provide it,” emphasized Igor Abram’yuk.
It is worth mentioning that strategic sessions in pilot communities are conducted within the framework of the partnership project of the NGO “Space of Opportunities.”
Taking into account these sessions, targeted support programs for veterans and their families will be developed in each pilot community, as well as informational products that will be used in project implementation.
Additionally, a training program for local self-government specialists will be developed. Information and educational events are planned, where at least 100 representatives of local self-government bodies (village heads, employees of administrative service centers, other local self-government employees responsible for working with veterans) will undergo specialized training on the topic of veterans’ and veterans’ family reintegration support.
